How does one rise from the ashes of the past?

How does one rise from the ashes of the past?
A burnt out shell, free to be filled with whatever dream that one can grasp

Like a phoenix, to take flight from the ash of time and things past
Stifling, gray, and dark, away into the heavens,
Letting your light be a guiding star,
That others may choose to light their path(s) out of the darkness of their past.

How does one rise from the ashes of the past?
A long, heavy, foreboding and hard to forgive weight.
From under which you are free to decide your own fate.
But you must have faith.

Recognize that the pain that came with the fire,
Was the burning away of the life that came prior.
That through it all, you are standing because you flew.
And with it gone, now, you can stand stronger, fly higher.

How does one rise from the ashes of the past?
How does one rise?
How?
They rise.
